Stage play ‘Ward: 448’ tells the story of Filipinos living with HIV

According to the data, Philippines is one of the countries with the fastest-growing number of confirmed HIV infections. Director Rodel Mercado is using his platform to tackle the issue.

Ward: 448, written and directed by Mercado, features a trilogy of stories of individuals that have HIV affliction. “We need to educate the young people,” he said.

“Imagine, sa 2029, ang expected na number ay 331k HIV positive. Very alarming ‘yan. That’s why we’re staging Ward: 448,” Mercado added.

In partnership with LoveYourself, the play depicts the fight or flight response of persons infected with this devastating and life-threatening disease and how discrimination, ignorance, and stigma exacerbate the predicament of the person with HIV.

Adding to Mercado’s goal is to train new breed of actors. The three-part play features three main characters namely, Carla Mae played by Anna Escobia, and Justine Toralba. Kevin played by Kevin Posadas, VJ Mendoza, and Rey Correjado. Lastly, Francis played by Ronnie Martinez and Roeder Camanag.

Ward: 448 this October 29 (3pm) and 30 (7pm) at RCBC Theater, Makati City. Buy your tickets at www.ticket2me.net

Rodel plans to sell Ward: 448 to LGUs, universities, and colleges.
